Hinge Launches Video Prompts and Prompt Polls to Encourage Authenticity and Spark Great Conversations

September 20, 2022 – Today, Hinge, the dating app designed to be deleted™, is adding a new video and polls experience to profiles - helping daters get to know the person behind the profile and create better conversations with matches before meeting. With the launch of Video Prompts, users will be able to record a video of themselves in the app and pair it with a video-specific Prompt to show off who they are. While Prompt Polls, a first-of-its-kind feature, will give daters the ability to poll their matches about topics designed to kickstart great conversation and fun debate. Video Prompts and Prompt Polls are available to all users globally.

About Video Prompts

Video Prompts allow users to create 30-second videos for their profile right from within the app, giving users a new way to get to know the person they might go on a date with. Recording within the app makes it easy to create fun videos and encourages more in-the-moment authenticity. More than half of Hinge daters find mannerisms to be the most interesting part about watching a video of a potential partner, followed by the sound of their voice and seeing their environment. The most popular new video-specific Prompts so far include, “Hi from me and my pet”, “Can we talk about”, “I’m a 10 but” and more.

About Prompt Polls

Hinge daters can also now add a poll to their profile giving potential matches three unique answers to choose from. In a recent survey, Hinge found that half of daters feel bored when receiving a one-word opener in the app. With the introduction of Prompt Polls, daters now have specific topics to start a conversation, such as, “Instead of getting drinks, let's”, “A dream home must include”, and “Pick the best one.”

“At Hinge we are constantly working toward getting users to a place where they have a good understanding of their match before they meet in person, as we know this results in more successful dates,” said Michelle Parsons, Chief Product Officer at Hinge. “Voice Prompts was a great first step in this direction, and now users can remove even more guesswork by seeing their matches on video and having the opportunity to interact with polls they publish.”

Users can add Video Prompts to their profiles by following these steps:

  • From the Settings screen, click Edit Profile.
  • Tap ‘Select a Prompt’ under the new ‘Video Prompt’ section.
  • Choose a Video Prompt, such as “Something that’s special to me” to record your response.
  • Tap the record button to begin recording for up to 30 seconds.
  • Tap the stop button when you’re done. You can watch it before it goes live, by pressing the play button.
  • Click ‘done’ and your Video Prompt will be added and displayed under the first picture on your profile.

Users can add Prompt Polls to their profiles by following these steps:

  • From the Settings screen, click Edit Profile.
  • Tap ‘Create a poll’ under the new ‘Prompt Poll’ section.
  • Choose a Prompt, such as “Instead of getting drinks, let’s.”
  • Fill out three answer options.
  • Click “done” and your Prompt Poll will be added and displayed under the first picture on your profile. If you have added a Video Prompt, it will be displayed under that.

About Hinge

Hinge is the dating app for people who want to get off dating apps. In today’s digital world, singles are so busy matching that they’re not actually connecting, in person, where it counts. Hinge is on a mission to change that. So we built a dating app that’s designed to be deleted. Currently, the team is setting up a date every two seconds. On Hinge, there are no rules, timers, or games. Instead, you’ll have unique conversations over what you’ve shared on your detailed profile. We’re for people who want to get off the app and out on great dates. And it’s resonating. For two years running, Hinge has been the fastest-growing dating app in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Match Group (NASDAQ:MTCH) acquired Hinge in 2018.
