Hinge Arrives in Brazil with the Aim of Making Dating More Meaningful Locally
Daters in Brazil are searching for genuine connections, and Hinge, the dating app designed to be deleted®, launches in the country today to offer them a new way to find and build lasting relationships. Founded in 2012 by Justin McLeod, Hinge has become the fastest-growing dating app in markets like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where a date is set up approximately every two seconds. With this launch, Brazil becomes the second country in Latin America where the app is available — following its September release in Mexico and reflecting a growing demand for authentic connections in the region. In a world where connections can often feel fleeting, Hinge offers something different: a space designed for people to get to know each other through intentional interactions that lead to real in-person dates.
“With Hinge’s launch in Brazil, we’re excited to help daters in the largest country in Latin America build real, lasting relationships. Brazil is known for its openness and authenticity, and these values align perfectly with Hinge’s mission to foster meaningful connections,” said Justin McLeod (he/him), Founder and CEO of Hinge. “We believe our intentional dating experience will deeply resonate with people here who are ready for something genuine.”
Intentional Connections
Hinge is built for people who are ready to date with purpose as every feature on the app is thoughtfully designed to help daters connect over who they really are. As the first dating app to have Prompts for its profiles, they continue to be one of the app’s key differentiators. These creative, open-ended questions or statements make it easy for you to share more about who you are and spark deeper conversations with the people you match with.
Each user must include three responses to prompts (icebreakers) on their profile, with examples such as “We’ll get along if…” or “I could stay up all night talking about…”. In addition to text and photos, you can add audio and video Prompts so that your personality comes to life beyond photos.
Beyond Prompts and photos, Hinge has a range of features designed to encourage intentional connections:
- Dating Intentions lets users clearly state what kind of relationship they’re looking for, whether it’s a life partner, a long-term relationship, something shorter-term, or if they’re still figuring it out. They can also add a Backstory, sharing more about their dating goals in their own words.
- Voice Notes make it possible for users to have a conversation while messaging that captures their tone and humor. In 2024, conversations with Voice Notes were 40% more likely to lead to a date.
- Your Turn reminds daters when it’s their turn to respond, keeping conversations flowing with mutual effort.
- Your Turn Limits helps daters focus by requiring them to reply to or close out conversations before connecting with new people — leading to more thoughtful interactions and a 20% increase in responsiveness.
- We Met is an in-app survey that checks in after a date to see if both people would like to meet again. Hinge was the first dating app to offer this, and now it is duplicated across the industry.
Through these features, Hinge encourages self-expression and emotional maturity, supporting its community by offering a more thoughtful dating experience.
Diversity, Inclusion, and Authenticity
Hinge aims to provide a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, respected, and empowered as they connect with others. In Brazil, daters will have access to one of the most comprehensive sets of identity and expression options among dating apps — with more than 50 gender identity options and 21 sexual orientation options. Beyond identity, daters can also express what they’re looking for through customizable Prompts on their profiles and preferences that reflect their values, religion, life goals, or even zodiac signs — helping people connect over what genuinely matters to them.
Safety
At Hinge, safety is a top priority — it encompasses not only how people meet but also how secure they feel throughout the experience. The app offers industry-leading features, such as Selfie Verification, nudges encouraging positive behavior, and Comment Filter, all of which are designed to give users more control and help prevent a negative encounter before it starts. With its arrival in Brazil, Hinge introduces a new standard for dating apps that is grounded in empathy, respect, and trust - principles it considers essential for creating a safe and positive environment.
“We’re honored to bring Hinge to Brazil — a country known for its deep connections, expressive culture, and love of meaningful moments. Guided by our mission to help people find relationships worth deleting the app for, we’re committed to creating a space where safety, authenticity, and mutual respect come first. Every dater deserves to feel supported in their journey toward something real,” said Jackie Jantos (she/her), President and CMO of Hinge.
The Science of Love
Hinge’s approach is grounded in science. The company has created Hinge Labs, an in-house team of researchers and behavioral scientists dedicated to understanding what helps people form real and lasting connections. As the first initiative of its kind among dating apps, the lab combines quantitative and qualitative research to identify the main challenges of modern dating and develop innovative solutions. From testing new features to studying behavioral patterns across different countries, its goal is to improve the experience of meeting in person — safely and successfully.
