Hinge Launches Prompt Feedback to Help Daters Create Unique and Authentic Profiles

The personalized coaching feature guides daters to create more meaningful first impressions to potential matches.

Wednesday, January 15, 2025 - Today, Hinge released Prompt Feedback, a first-of-its-kind feature designed to help daters better express their unique personalities, interests, and dating intentions on their profiles. As Hinge’s first AI-powered coaching feature, Prompt Feedback offers personalized nudges to help daters improve their Prompt responses, empowering them to show up as their best selves.

Hinge research shows Prompts are an effective starting point for getting to know someone. In fact, in 2024, likes on text prompts were 47% more likely to lead to a date than likes on photos. Yet many daters struggle with writing responses to Prompts. In a survey with Hinge users, more than half (63%) of daters on the app expressed challenges in knowing what to include on their profile. As a result, daters often resort to adding generic, one-word, or even cliche answers, which can make it hard for others to get a sense of who they truly are.

“Hinge’s mission has always been to help people find meaningful connections and get off the app,” said Justin McLeod, Founder and CEO of Hinge (he/him). “With Prompt Feedback, we’re intentionally leveraging AI to provide personalized coaching during a key moment for daters – making a great first impression on their profiles. For years, our research team has identified what helps people discover compatibility that leads to dates, and now daters can apply these insights through specific, tailored advice.”

How Prompt Feedback Works

Prompt Feedback leverages AI — guided by insights from Hinge’s team of PhD behavioral scientists — to evaluate a dater’s Prompt answers and generate feedback. The feature doesn’t tell the dater exactly what to say, or provide suggested language. Instead, Prompt Feedback provides optional guidance and tips that help daters stand out in a way that feels authentic and engaging, and spark conversations that lead to dates.

Prompt Feedback provides three levels of guidance:

  • “Great Answer” – Keep it as is.
  • “Try a Small Change” – A tweak could make it even better.
  • “Go a Little Deeper” – Add more details about your authentic self
Hinge Prompt Feedback

“We’re all familiar with dating app clichés like ‘pineapple on pizza’ or being ‘overly competitive about… everything.’ While these responses are common, they often fall short in showcasing the individuality and creativity that ignite meaningful conversations,” said Logan Ury, Director of Relationship Science at Hinge (she/her). “By crafting Prompt responses that highlight your unique quirks and share authentic details about your personality, you can help potential matches get to know the real you. This small shift can make a big difference in finding a connection worth deleting the app for.”

Users see Prompt Feedback when reviewing their profile in their settings. Feedback is private, and users can choose to keep their original answers or update them based on the feedback.

Driving Category Innovation

As the dating app designed to be deleted, Hinge continuously introduces first-of-a-kind features to get people off of the app and out on great dates.

In 2016, Hinge was the first dating app to build and offer Prompts on profiles – now they are widely duplicated across the industry. Additionally, in 2021, Hinge became the first mainstream dating app to add Voice Prompts to profiles. All Prompts on Hinge empower daters to uniquely show their authentic self via text, photos, video, voice, and polls on profiles and find the people they’re most compatible with.
