Hinge Launches New ‘Signals’ Badge to Celebrate Daters Who Show Consistent Effort
Today, Hinge is introducing Signals – a new profile badge that recognizes daters who have shown up with care and consistency on the app. The feature was inspired by small actions on Hinge that can help people move towards a date – like taking time to really look at someone's profile before sending a Like, writing a thoughtful comment for a potential match, responding to incoming Likes, and following through on conversations. With Signals, daters can be more directly aware of each other’s effort and what steps help them find their next potential connection.
“A profile can tell you a lot about someone, but it doesn’t always show how they actually show up when it comes to dating. We built Signals to give people more context by making thoughtful behavior easier to recognize. It is designed to help daters feel more confident recognizing the small actions that often lead to better conversations and real dates,” said Ben Celebicic, Chief Product and Technology Officer (he/him).
How Signals Works
To be eligible for a Signals badge, daters must have a complete profile, an account in good standing, Selfie Verification, and an account at least seven days old. They must also have shown thoughtfulness in their recent activity across at least three of the behaviors that daters tell us matter most:
- Spending time on profiles before sending a Like: Taking time to explore a profile before sending a Like, because genuine interest starts with actually getting to know who someone is.
- Commenting on someone’s profile: Adding a specific comment with a Like, because it can build momentum towards a great conversation.
- Reviewing incoming Likes: Responding to interest from others, because it moves daters closer to matching or closure as they focus on connections with real potential.
- Messaging matches: Responding to messages, because those early conversations lead to actually connecting off the app.
- Confirming a date: Sharing whether a connection led to a real first date, because meeting in person is the next step towards building something meaningful.
"As a dating coach, I always tell people: the small moments matter. Signals celebrates the consistent, thoughtful actions that make dating better for everyone. It turns fuzzy aspirations like 'I want to be a good dater' into concrete behaviors you can actually practice. If you've been bringing real effort to Hinge, this is your moment to be recognized for it," said Logan Ury, Lead Relationship Scientist (she/her).
A Signals badge reflects activity over the last 30 days and refreshes daily based on recent activity. Daters can see the Signals badge when viewing other daters’ profiles in their Discover feed. Signals is available to daters globally excluding the UK and EU.
Helping Daters See Where Potential Exists
"People are tired of games. Tired of waiting six hours to text back, decoding mixed signals, and pretending not to care. Our research shows daters are ready for something more honest, where effort is celebrated. Signals makes that thoughtfulness visible — so it's easier to find the people who are already showing up that way on Hinge," said Logan Ury, Lead Relationship Scientist (she/her).
Signals builds on Hinge's ongoing work to create features that encourage and recognize genuine effort throughout daters’ app experience. With ongoing updates like Date Ideas and Convo Starters, Hinge is committed to helping the community show up with care and interactions that will lead them to their next great date.
